Ada Angeli Cariaga
Ada Angeli Cariaga is an instructor at the University of the Philippines at Diliman Department of Computer Science and a member of the Web Science Research Lab. She is taking MS Computer Science at the University specializing in Software Engineering. She finished her undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the Department after transferring from the Institute of Computer Science from the University of the Philippines at Los Baños after her freshman year.
She continued to become the chairperson of the Association for Computing Machinery UP Chapter, which further entitled her to be a member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Her research interests involve educational technology and integration of information and communications technology in pedagogy. Her research on Kinespell: Kinesthetic Learning Activity and Assessment in a Digital Game-based Learning Environment, an interactive tool to facilitate the learning of spelling by kinesthetic learners, was accepted and published in the proceedings of the International Conference on Web-based Learning 2009.
She likes corny jokes and sometimes churns out one or two quips much to the shock – and chagrin – of her companions.
Jaime DL Caro
Dr. Jaime D.L. Caro has 25 years of experience in education and research in the areas of computer science, IT and mathematics. He received the degrees of Bachelor of Science major in Mathematics (cum laude) in 1986, Master of Science in Mathematics in 1994, and Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics in 1996, all from UP Diliman. He spent a year as a post-doctorate research fellow at the University of Oxford from 1997 to 1998. He is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science in UP Diliman. He is also a member of the Technical Panel on IT Education of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). He is a recognized expert on complexity theory, combinatorial network theory, online communities and e-learning.
Manica Dimaiwat
Manica Dimaiwat is a senior Computer Science student at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She is a member of the Web Science Research Group of the Department of Computer Science and is currently working on their thesis project, KineSpell 2, an educational spelling game for kinesthetic learners.
She is also the Secretary and the Executive Head of the Records Committee of UP Association for Computing Machinery (UP ACM).
Noel P. Feria
He is a graduate student of the UP College of Education specializing in Educational Technology. He graduated from the UP School of Library and Information Studies and is currently a lecturer at the same school. He is also a short course lecturer at the UP Information Technology Training Center (UP ITTC), and a courseware administrator of the Java Education & Development Initiative Project (JEDI).
His interests are in the realm of Educational Technology, Java, Open Source, Linux, Apple Mac OS X, Game Development, and Internet & Mobile Technologies. He is a professional member of the Association for Computing Machinery International, a former officer of the ACM UP Student Chapter, a NetBeans Platform Certified Associate, and a member of the Ubuntu Team Philippines.
Rom P. Feria
Rom Feria is an educator and a computer scientist. After graduating with a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of the Philippines, he joined the faculty of the Department of Computer Science from the same university. Rom later went to the United Kingdom to complete his MSc in Information Systems from the University of Leeds, England.
With 15 years of experience as an educator, Rom received awards as BioMedical Informatics Fellow of the US National Institute of Health-National Library of Medicine, Apple Distinguished Educator and Sun Java Champion. He is a certified Java Programmer, a certified Linux Certification Exam Proctor, a Professional Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery.
Rom leads the UP Java Research & Development Center and supervises the Java Education & Development Initiative Project. He also heads the Web Science Research Group of the University of the Philippines – Diliman’s Computer Science department.
Rom is one of first TED Fellows (first Filipino TED Fellow) to attend the TED Conference at Long Beach, CA, USA. He is also one of the organizers of the first TEDx event in the Philippines, TEDxUP.
Leah Besa-Jimenez
More than 14 years of experience in Marketing, CRM and Digital. Leah has consulted for global brands for industries covering: FMCG, Technology, Telecommunications and Healthcare. Breadth of work involves Strategic Brand Planning, Through-the-line Communications, Digital Marketing, Customer Relationship Marketing focusing on Loyalty & Retention, Data Analytics and Datawarehousing.
Currently, General Manager for Proximity Philippines (part of the Proximity Worldwide Network) delivering compelling commercial content in Digital, Direct and Relationship Marketing.
Prior to Proximity, Head of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) division for Globe Telecom doing CRM Strategy and Data Analytics for the second largest telecom in the Philippines. A consulting group that aids the business in developing strategies through analytics, statistical models and implementation processes to control churn, build loyalty and increase usage.
Previous agency was at Ogilvy & Mather, concurrently held three posts – Business Development Director for Ogilvy & Mather, Business Director for OgilvyOne and Business Director for OgilvyHealthcare.
A regular speaker on CRM and Digital, locally and regionally representing Proximity as the CRM Lead for Asia. Currently serving as a Director in the Board of the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP).
MIchelle Moscatel
Born and raised in Mindanao, the self-confessed “travel bug” Sheli came to the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2007 to pursue a masters degree in computer science. After finishing her bachelor’s degree in the same field in the University of the Philippines Mindanao, Michelle joined the EQuALLs program of the USAID in conflict-inflicted areas of Mindanao as a
documentation specialist. The short stint in the NGO has enabled her to travel around Mindanao and got her into the “education” field. She eventually went back to her roots in IT, becoming a Regional IT Coordinator conducting trainings and IT advocacy programs for Region XII of the National Computer Center (CICT) stationed in Koronadal, South Cotabato.
She then joined the academe as a graduate student in UP Diliman, taking on the role as a research assistant and associate for research projects in the Department of Computer Science of the College of Engineering. She finally decided to work full-time as an instructor in UP teaching engineering students programming and computers. Sheli enjoys traveling, mountaineering and chorale singing in her free time.
Sabrina Par
She is currently a kindergarten teacher at the UP Integrated School while taking her master’s degree in Elementary Mathematics at the UP College of Education. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education – Teaching in the Early Grades from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2008.
Aubrey Pareja
Aubrey Pareja is a senior Computer Science student at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She is a member of the Web Science Research Group of the Department of Computer Science and is currently working on a proof of concept of effectiveness of multiple interaction methods in teaching Mathematics.
She is an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), UP student chapter and the Executive Vice President of UP Green League, Inc., an environmental organization.
Mark Ruiz
He is the Chief Marketing Inoventor of InoventDesign and also a part-time faculty in the Ateneo de Manila handling a Business Innovation Management class. For his endeavors, he was selected by Asia Society as one of the Philippines 21 Young Leaders for 2008.
After graduating from the Ateneo de Manila with a degree in BS Management Engineering, Mark spent 7 years in a multinational corporation, rising through varying positions within Customer Development. He eventually left as part of senior management in order to chase his dream of making a difference, as a social business entrepreneur. That dream, succinctly put, is to create valuable Filipino jobs.
As such, for the past (3) years since resigning, Mark has pursued his passions of innovation, entrepreneurship, social development, and education. He is currently energized by companies he has co-founded, currently serving as Managing Director of MicroVentures / Hapinoy; Founding Partner and Board Member of Rags2Riches; and Founding Partner of the WhyNot?Forum.
RoseAnn Sale
She is a senior Computer Science student at the University of the Philippines Diliman. A member of the Web Science Research Group at the department of Computer Science researching on educational games for kinesthetic learners and developing a spelling application called KineSpell2. Her previous research includes electronic portfolio and assessment system and she was a student assistant during the System Analysis and Design phase of eSkwela.
She is the current Executive Council for Education of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), UP student chapter.
Myra Jill Siason
Myra Jill Siason is a new faculty member of the University of the Philippines Open University under the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies. She is a graduate student under the Educational Technology program of the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is also active in the local open source communities as events coordinator and Linux trainer. She is passionate about e-learning and new learning paradigms that make the student the center of the learning process. She is excited about the future of technology integration in education and loves to try new things.
Rowena Solamo
Ma. Rowena C. Solamo is an Assistant Professor of the Department of
Computer Science, UP Diliman, Quezon City. She earned her degrees in
B.S. Computer Science at Ateneo de Manila University in March 1991,
and her Masters in Computer Science at the University of the
Philippines, Diliman in May 2006. She has been part of various
software development projects both in public and private sectors. She
is the author of the Software Engineering course material for the
Java Education and Development Initiative (JEDI), and has been
actively involved in the training of instructors to adopt JEDI
materials in their curriculum. Her field of expertise are Software
Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering Education, and
Education Informatics. Currently, she is part of the Web Science
Research Group involved in developing innovative systems related to
the field of Education and Telemedicine.
Ruzette Tanyag
Ruzette Tanyag is currently a graduating student at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. Her undergraduate project focuses on Game-based Learning and Augmented Reality in the Web Science Research Group at the Department of Computer Science. She has been a previous officer at the Association for Computer Machinery – UP Student Chapter before becoming a student member in the ACM International. She is also a director at the UP Alliance for Responsive Involvement and Student Empowerment organization and a member at the UP Linux Users Group. She is also a Campus Ambassador at Sun Microsystems, Inc., where she learned various Sun technologies.
Joel Yuvienco
Social Media Technology Consultant and Educator based in Manila, Joel was educated in Statistics and Law at the University of the Philippines. He completed his residential MBA program at the University of Liverpool, U.K. in 1996, in the midst of the first growth spurt of the Internet or Web 1.0 which allowed him to explore its evolving usefulness in collaborative projects. A “tweener” straddling the Baby Boomer and X Generations, he is a strong believer in Information and Communications Technology as a potent tool to bridge cultural/generational divides. For close to 15 years he had worked in the government and the corporate sector, until he decided to cross over to the academe doing what he loved doing: Innovative Teaching and Research. He joined De La Salle Canlubang (DLSC) in Laguna in 2003 as pioneering Director, School of Management of Technopreneurship. In 2007, he was nominated Most Outstanding DLSC Teacher. After mentoring a fellow associate professor to take over the helm, he gave up his tenure in 2008. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Communication and the College of Education — teaching undergraduate and Masters students, as well as Chair, Distance Education Technical Committee of Miriam College. Joel was a contributor to the book titled “We are Smarter than Me: How to Unleash the Power of Crowds in Your Business.”
